The High Country Lodge offers a surprisingly pleasant and affordable stay, particularly appreciated by travelers seeking a basic but clean room and convenient location. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies in service and maintenance, along with occasional issues like noise and pricing discrepancies.
Looks can be deceiving at this small budget inn, but the rooms were quite nice. Yes, the beds are firm, but I actually prefer a harder mattress, so it was not an issue for me. About 6 miles to the state line, so expect to drive see the sights.
Room 105 was great. Clean renovated. There were sounds from the heater and people partying so we turned the fan on the unit next to the door and it was fine. Great value $ for the area!
High Country Lodge came in CLUTCH this last Sunday when my fiance and I got stuck in Tahoe on our way back from Reno due to the storm. When we realized that making it back to the Bay wasn't feasible with constant snowfall, we booked a room at High Country Lodge and were pleasantly surprised with a cozy room, comfy beds, and a hot shower. This is not a luxury accomodation by any means, but the front desk staff are super friendly and were there to help us out when we needed it. They even offered to send someone from their maintenance staff to come help us diagnose an issue with our car. Our one night stay at high country Lodge was very nice, and helped turn a bad situation of us being stuck in an April snowstorm into a fun, memorable night.
Awful quality of rooms that smells, hair in towels and bedding. It was disgusting experience. The showers are old and loud and moldy. Heater was loud as well. They also always doubling in price when there’s one room left that is very exploitative. Water is not provided in rooms, 0.5 L is for $1 at “reception”.
HORRIBLE experience, there was incredibly loud drilling noises in my walls around 1am waking me up in terror! i called front desk repeatedly immediately afterwards for help and no one answered. As a solo female traveler, I should have called the police from how terrifying it was. I specifically called ahead of my stay to ask if they had a quiet room and he said YES. DO NOT STAY HERE. In the morning i asked for a refund but they had their young son working at the front desk on a school day. He had to call his mom to ask what to do while I stood there and then said he couldn't help. she said she would have her husband call me and he never did!
I'd give it a 4.5. We couldn't cool the room down even though we gradually set the AC from 71 to 68. I was excited to have a freezer in the fridge in the room. As a person that travels with medication that needs to be kept cold and outdoor temperatures in the 90's to 100, we freeze water bottles. However, our freezer did not freeze. Luckily they have an ice machine and I had baggies. It'll do for now. The beds are pretty firm as well as the pillows. Very quiet, very clean place. No pets and no smoking which was great for us. Not too far from the PCT and a Tesla Supercharger.
Great place. You can park right next to your room and has top notch mattresses, great place to crash for the night.
Great price for the value. One of the cleanest, best maintained motels in the region at this price point. Hot water with great water pressure. Powerful heater. Well maintained furniture, and clean carpet.
We came across this by circumstance and found a great place to stay. Rooms are all redone they have all the amenities that you need to have a good stay. Showers are excellent and heat AC internet is just Walmart you need. Is a small property and no crowded parking will stay again.
This was a great find! The room was clean, bed very comfortable ( I always bring my own pillow). Checking in was easy and the lady assisting us was professional, pleasant and quite helpful. It is set back from the road so noise was minimal. I preferred this location as it is easy access to get around and not in the middle of the craziness closer to town. My friend and I left for an event and she realized she didn't have her expensive ring on. She thought maybe it fell off as she was leaving. She contacted the motel and the cleaning staff was extremely helpful in setting her mind at ease as they searched outside and around the parking lot. (As it turns out, she left it on the bathroom counter.) All in all I highly recommend the High Country Lodge.
